On February 9, 10 and 11 2022, the Embassy of the North Sea will participate in the international panel Rights of nature on six continents, the sea and the oceans: the ILP (Popular Legislative Initiative) of Mar Menor, organized by the University of Murcia, Spain. A political campaign is currently underway to grant legal personality to the highly polluted Mar Menor lagoon in the municipality of Los Alcázares in Spain.
Lawyer, writer and activist Carolijn Terwindt will participate in the 3-day panel on behalf of the Embassy of the North Sea together with, among others Teresa-Vicente Giménez (Professor of Philosophy of Law at the Universidad de Murcia), Marie Toussaint (member of the European Parliament) and various stakeholders. They will discuss the social, environmental and economic regeneration of natural sites like Mar Menor and the role of legal personality.
