Our mission is to listen to, imagine and represent the North Sea as a full-fledged political player, as a person with interests that needs better representation. While working on this mission, European collaborations have become increasingly important to us. First of all, of course, because the North Sea is bordered by seven countries, but certainly also because confluencing with other water bodies means learning about local practices all over Europe. It’s an opportunity to exchange knowledge and ideas while expanding our water bodies community.
After a successful first confluence in 2023 on the shores of the Mar Menor in Spain, the first ecosystem in Europe with legal personhood, we are very happy to announce the second edition of the Confluence of European Water Bodies in Venice, 3–6 October 2024. Over 25 European rivers, seas, lakes, glaciers and lagoons seeking legal, political and cultural recognition will join us on the shores of the Venitian Lagoon. Have a look on our brand new website to find our more: www.water-bodies.eu!
