Voices of the future: Representing future generations and nature in our democracies
At a time when climate change and ecological degradation are pressing global challenges, the question of how future generations and nature can be represented in our democracy becomes increasingly important.
How can we incorporate the interests of unborn life into current political decisions? What models and mechanisms are there to represent nature in democratic processes? What role do ethical considerations and intergenerational justice play in shaping our future? We will explore these and other questions in the panel: Voices of the future: Representing future generations and nature in our democracies.
Guests:
Dr Jonathan Hoffmann, Philosopher and social scientist, Fellow at Netzwerk Zukunftsgerechtigkeit
Raphael Fellmer, Entrepreneur, climate activist and co-founder of the Berlin-based Impact Startup SIRPLUS
Christiane Bosman, director of communications and public programme Embassy of the North Sea
Grace Clover, Alumna of the Goethe-Institut, member of the Stiftung für die Rechte zukünftiger Generationen
The event image is a collage by artist and landscape architect Céline Baumann, entitled The Parliament of Plants. In this speculative work, she highlights questions such as: How different would the world look if nature took over and had a voice? Would nature be better able to address issues of ethnicity, gender, normativity, inclusion, ecology and climate change than we humans?
